AUSTRALIAN SKINCARE MUST-HAVES

Keeping your skin looking fresh and glowy can be challenging with all the distractions we have as we get older. The year-round sunshine in Australia means we have to be extra vigilant of the harsh sun that is the number one cause of premature wrinkles, fine lines, discolouration, changes in skin texture, and the development of sun-spots.

Vibrant and healthy skin requires us to have a dedicated skin routine with must-have products to help achieve desirable outcomes.

1) Sunscreen (SunSense Daily Face SPF)

Minimising sun exposure is the single most effective method towards combating premature skin damage. Whilst our skin needs to catch those rays for optimum vitamin D levels, excess exposure will leave us with rough skin, sun spots, wrinkles, and a possibility of dangerous melanomas.

Many of us spend a lot of time taking in ultraviolet rays, often with little or no sun protection. Investing in a sunscreen with at least 30+ SPF is the number one must-have for preventing premature ageing, and promoting healthy skin. And remember, sunscreen isn’t just for the summer - it’s essential all year round! Look for a daily moisturiser to protect your face and neck, and use sunscreen on your legs, arms, and other body parts whenever outdoors.

Mineral sunscreens are also great to apply over makeup as they come in clear or coloured form.

2) Water

Drinking roughly 7 - 8 glasses of water every day isn’t just good for your body… it’s also great for your skin! Just like all other organs, the skin is made up of cells that require water to function. When skin cells are not sufficiently hydrated, the appearance of your skin suffers. Water further aids with digestion, removes toxins from the body, reduces breakouts, and improves skin elasticity.

Keep a bottle or large glass of water on your desk, and simply carry a bottle on the go. For an extra boost to amazing-looking skin, add a Vida Glow marine collagen sachet twice a day.

3) Cleanser (Sukin cleanser)

Cleansers are formulated to remove impurities and makeup from skin, allowing it to breathe. Regular use of cleansers help protect and replenish the skin’s delicate moisture barrier by gently removing impurities and debris without stripping critical skin lipids.

Cleansers come in multiple types, so choose one that’s best for your skin type. Always opt for a natural face cleanser free of harmful synthetic ingredients.

Dry skin: cream cleanser

Oily skin: Foamy cleanser

4) Lip Balm

It’s easy to forget about protecting our lips from the sun’s harsh rays, but they’re just as prone to damage and burning too, especially since they do not contain melanin. And while dry lips aren’t as big a problem during the warmer months as they are in winter, a moisturising lip balm is a year-round skincare must-have. Chances are your lip balm isn’t warding off harmful UV rays, so look for a lip balm with SPF protection and make it a part of your permanent daytime routine.

5) Dry body brush (Bodecare body brush)

One of the important benefits of dry body brushing is exfoliation. It’s an effective way of getting rid of dead skin cells and helping your skin GLOW! As we age, our skin is less effective in ridding itself of dead skin, so exfoliation becomes extra important.

Dry body brushes not only promote lymphatic drainage and help with fluid retention, but also promote blood flow to the heart by stimulating your skin and capillaries that lie beneath it. The increased blood flow delivers extra oxygen to cells - and because the lymph system doesn’t have a central pump, the act of brushing helps to ‘flush’ toxins from the body, diminishing the appearance of cellulite and helping to minimise breakouts,

It also helps clear pores, and removes toxins from the outside. Having clear pores means any moisturiser or oil you apply after will sink deeper and work like magic to give you smooth, supple skin.

6) Vida Glow

Above all, keeping your skin hydrated throughout the summer is a must. Vida Glow’s natural marine collagen derived from the scales of Deep Sea Red Snapper can be mixed with food and drink. Numerous scientific and clinical studies have shown that marine collagen significantly increases the moisture levels of the skin, with one such study noting that skin hydration increased by up to 91%.
